Tribute to Tatiana Fabergé

17 Feb 2020

It is with great sadness that the Igor Carl Fabergé Foundation announces the passing of Tatiana Fabergé.

The great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé, she was the daughter of Theodore Carl and Tatiana Fabergé (née Cheremetieff).

Born in Geneva, she studied jewellery design in Paris in the early 1950s, where she was in close contact with her uncles Eugène and Alexandre Fabergé. They provided her with first-hand information about the House of Fabergé.

After completing her studies, she worked with her father, designing various precious objects that were produced in Paris and Geneva. She always took an interest in the House of Fabergé and, since her retirement from CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research), she undertook research into the family history and the promotion of her heritage.

Her life’s work became the preservation of the family’s historical legacy. She authored numerous books in English and Russian, the latest of which was published in 2012: the magnum opus, “Fabergé: A Comprehensive Reference Book,” co-authored by Éric-Alain Kohler and Valentin V. Skurlov.
At CERN, she formed lasting friendships with colleagues from around the world. She traveled extensively and spoke seven languages, including Russian, translating original Fabergé documents for publication in her books.

An authority on Fabergé, she spoke at numerous conferences worldwide.
The Igor Carl Fabergé Foundation is dedicated to promoting the work and personality of Peter Carl Fabergé, who was the official jeweler to the last Imperial Court of St. Petersburg, and to collecting, as far as possible, everything related to his professional activities (books, publications, memorabilia, and objects in particular).

Tatiana was Vice President of the Foundation.

As one of the last descendants of Peter Carl Fabergé, she is mourned by cousins in France, Brazil, Sweden and Switzerland, as well as by many friends, artists and former colleagues.
